FIFTH GRADE
Integrated Project

Standards: Social Studies - Coloines

Need: laptops, internet access, website creation
tool (such as WebBlender, iWeb or Rapidweaver)

Preparation: Students are paired up. Each pair is assigned to one of the 13 colonies. (Groups can have three students if needed.) Teacher creates a rubric / checklist of what information she wants the students to find.

Students work with their partner to find the information on the checklist / rubric.

Students are grouped into three groups: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies and Southern Colonies. The students compare information they collected about their colonies to find similarities, and what qualities are based on their location.

Students work together to create a website. There will be three final websites: New England, Middle and Southern Colonies.

Optional: Create a website template, so all three sites look similar. Link all three websites together on one page. A student can design a web cover page if time. Create a question sheet that students fill out by using the websites created by the other students in the classroom.

Assessment: Observation, Research, Websites
