Integrated Project

Standards: Math - Adding and Subtracting Money, Represent dollars and cents using decimal notation.

Need: Projection device (optional), laptops, internet connection

Students work in partners.

Each group of two students use one laptop. They start at Harcourt's Counting Money site. http://www.hbschool.com/activity/counting_money/ (Bookmark ahead of time.)
Students work for 10-15 minutes adding up the coins. The teacher should monitor progress, moving students to the next site once they have mastered this first site.

Students visit the Virtual Manipulative site: http://nlvm.usu.edu/
Click on PreK - 2. Click on Money. (You can bookmark the money site ahead of time.)
Start with Make a dollar. If the students master this, they can move on to How Much Money or Pay Exact Amount. (You might need to show students how to use the decimal point.)

Optional: Work together as a class before starting the activity if you have an LCD or other projection device.
